Ashok Jacob has over 33 years investment experience and has served as a Director and as Chief Investment Officer of Ellerston since inception. Ashok has managed the Global Equity Managers (GEMS) strategy that now forms part of Ellerston’s range of funds since 2002.
Ashok has held prominent positions including Chief Executive Officer of the Consolidated Press Holdings group and Managing Director of Thorney Holdings, the investment arm for the Pratt Group.
Ashok is an experienced board member and current appointments include: MRF Ltd, Thorney Opportunities Ltd, Ellerston Global Investments and Ellerston Asian Investments. Previous directorships include Crown Ltd, Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd, Challenger Financial Group Ltd, Fleetwood Holdings Ltd, Ecorp Ltd, CPH Investment Group Ltd, Folkestone Ltd and Snack Foods Ltd. Ashok was also the Chairman of Hoyts Cinemas from 1999 until 2004.
Ashok holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (1984).
Responsible for leading our investment team, Chris has served as a Director and Portfolio Manager of Ellerston since 2005, and has over 32 years investment experience.
Prior to joining Ellerston, Chris co-founded the Melbourne based Investment Management firm Portfolio Partners in 1994, where he held various positions including Director and Senior Investment Manager and was formerly the Head of Equities until January 2003. It was from that point that he gave up his role to conceive and focus on managing the highly successful Elite Opportunities Concentrated Australian Shares Fund.
Prior to Portfolio Partners, Chris worked as a Senior Portfolio Manager, Deputy Head of Equities and Head of Resources Strategy at County Natwest Australia Investment Management where he was responsible for the management of County’s largest specialist equity mandates.
Chris has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Melbourne and is a Senior Associate of the Financial Services Institute of Australia.
Brian is the CEO of Ellerston Capital. He was employed by Ellerston in 2008. Brian brings over 24 years of hands on experience of funds management and operations through senior roles with Everest Capital, Zurich Capital Markets Asia and BT Financial Group.
Brian is a qualified Chartered Accountant, an Associate of Finsia and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of New South Wales.
Arik joined Ellerston in 2014 and is the Portfolio Manager for Ellerston’s listed investment company, Ellerston Global Investments Ltd. Arik has over 25 years financial markets experience with 14 years of global equity investing experience. Prior to joining Ellerston, Arik was a principal of Kira Capital, a private Melbourne based investment management firm with a focus on global equities that he founded in 2005. Previous experience included working at Consolidated Press Holdings and prior to that, Thorney Holdings, which Arik joined in 1996.
In addition to specific investment management experience, Arik has broad investment experience, having also worked in corporate advisory, project and structured finance and merchant banking roles.
Arik has a Bachelor of Banking and Finance degree from Monash University.
Brett joined Ellerston Capital in November 2016 as Head of Global Macro. Brett has worked in the financial services industry for over 28 years with over 26 of these as a fundamental medium term macro trader with only one negative return/benchmark under-performance during this time. Before joining Ellerston, Brett spent over 10 years as Senior Portfolio Manager at Tudor Investment Corporation in both London and Sydney.
Prior to this Brett spent two years contracted to manage capital for Commonwealth Bank of Australia on an absolute return basis.
Brett began his career in 1989 at Bankers Trust as a Futures Broker then Proprietary Trader. Brett transitioned to BT Funds Management Ltd to the position of Executive Vice President, Head of Cash and Cash Enhanced Products and in 1999 commenced management of Intermediate Bond Funds. Brett’s last held position here was Head of Global Sovereign Bonds.
Brett has a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Sydney and has been a guest panel speaker at the OECD Business and Finance Outlook Conference and a guest lecturer at the London Business School.
David joined Ellerston Capital as a Dealer in 2008 and transitioned into an analyst role within the Small Caps team. Using this experience, he has progressed to be the portfolio manager of the Australian MicroCaps fund in 2017.
David has 13 years experience as an Investment Analyst and prior to joining Ellerston, David worked for UISL/Old Mutual in the UK for a period of 4 years in a Senior Dealing role.
David graduated from Liverpool John Moore’s University with a BSc. Hons. in Technology Management in 2004.
David joined Ellerston Capital in 2005 and has over 23 years experience in technology and investment markets, as a researcher, analyst and investor. Most recently, David has been the Investment Director for the Ellerston Ventures Fund. In this role David leads the investment process, due diligence and negotiations with investees, as well as reporting to investors.
David is the Chairman of Better Caring, a non-executive director of Intelledox, LiteracyPlanet and Hipages as well as an alternative director for Friendsurance Australia.
Mark joined Ellerston Capital in 2005 and has 23 years investment experience. Mark currently helps manage Ellerston Global Equity Managers Fund with CIO Ashok Jacob and focuses on international equities, especially the United States. Prior to joining Ellerston, Mark worked as a Senior Portfolio Manager at QBE Insurance, in charge of managing the group’s U.K. equity portfolio.
Prior to joining QBE, Mark worked for Kingdon Capital in New York from 1998-2002, as a Portfolio Manager, responsible for the group’s investments in Australia, EMEA, and Latin America. From 1994-1998, he worked at Bankers Trust Australia as a Portfolio Manager in charge of the group’s Latin American investments.
Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, magna cum laude, from Duke University. He is also a CFA and an Associate of the Securities Institute of Australia.
Mary is a member of the investment team and is a Portfolio Manager for Ellerston’s listed investment company, Ellerston Asian Investments Ltd. Mary has over 17 years investment management expertise and joined Ellerston in 2012. Mary first worked in Asia in 1997 and has been investing in the region since 2001. Prior to joining Ellerston Capital, Mary worked at Oaktree Capital in New York and Singapore. In Singapore, she was the sole person responsible for financial sector investments for the firm’s Global Emerging Markets Hedge Fund.
Mary also worked as an investment analyst at Soros Fund Management in New York, the investment vehicle of George Soros. She focussed on investments in the financial sector in the US, Asia, including Japan and Europe.
Mary has a PhD in Economics from the University of Sydney, an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University Of Calgary, Canada.
Michael joined Ellerston Captial in 2008 and is the lead Portfolio Manager for the Small Companies strategy.
He joined the firm after five years with the Challenger Financial Services Group as Portfolio Manager, Small Companies.
Michael has over 21 years investment experience and holds a BCom (Finance). He is also a CFA Charterholder.
Paul joined Ellerston Capital in 2011 as a Portfolio Manager and has worked in the financial services industry for over 23 years. Prior to joining Ellerston, Paul co-founded Monterrey Investment Management and was the Managing Director and Investment Manager for 10 years, winning an AsiaHedge Fund of the Year nomination in 2005. In 2007 his fund was nominated and won Best Asian Relative Value Fund at the EurekaHedge Masters of Hedge Awards.
Before launching Monterrey, Paul was a Senior Investment Manager at Portfolio Partners (now Antares Capital), co-managing the High Growth Shares Trust – Australia’s first 125/25 fund and one of Portfolio Partners’ most successful products. He was an Investment Analyst at Towers Perrin, Asset Consulting before joining Portfolio Partners.
Paul holds a Masters in Finance from RMIT University, Melbourne and a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Honours) from The University of Melbourne, Australia.
